Islamic School Valedictorian Convicted of Terrorism

Islamic School Valedictorian Convicted of Terrorism

Do words matter?

Do ideas have consequences?

Yes.

Last week we reported to you that the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom had released a report regarding information contained in textbooks found in the Islamic Saudi Academy (ISA), located in Fairfax County, Virginia.

The Commission announced its report with this press release:

Saudi Arabia: USCIRF Confirms Material Inciting Violence, Intolerance Remains in Textbooks Used at Saudi Government's Islamic Saudi Academy

This is the school whose 1999 class valedictorian, Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, won the school’s award “Most Likely to Be a Martyr,” and who was later convicted on charges of terrorism and attempting to assassinate President Bush.

This should not surprise us. 1,400 years of Islamic history and 270 million non-Muslims dead should be ample evidence that the political ideology of jihad, proclaimed throughout the holy books of Islam, is typically followed by the act of jihad.

How many other students of ISA, past and present, are now terrorist threats to non-Muslims here in America? Who knows? Do we want to wait to find out?

It’s a simple action that allows you to exercise your First Amendment right to petition your government. As much as we all cherish the freedom of speech, speech that incites violence and creates an imminent threat is not constitutionally protected speech.

The longer such material exists inside Islamic institutions here in America, the more jihadists will be produced. It’s time for our elected officials to take this threat seriously, but to get them to do so means we have to act.

If you haven’t yet signed this petition, please click here to do so today.

We’re not advocating government officials go inside mosques to get such material. The materials are available in the public domain. It’s time they were carefully reviewed and debated in a public forum of our elected officials and covered by the press.

After all, how many people in Fairfax County, Virginia, know that children are being educated to hate and kill us in a school in their backyard? Is this happening in a mosque or school near you?

Yesterday, supporters of several different organizations gathered at the ISA to exercise their constitutional right to assemble and protest the school’s use of such materials. Members of ACT! for America joined supporters of the Traditional Values Coalition and the Virginia chapter of the United America Committee, among others.

One of our Virginia chapter leaders attended the protest, as did numerous media outlets. She said what was really notable was how many people passing by in cars honked and waved their support.

Efforts like this protest will draw more and more attention to the threat within our midst. We still have rights and freedoms in this country, but, as Thomas Jefferson wrote: “The price of liberty is eternal vigilance.”
